Congratulations! By purchasing ID Vault, you've taken an important step towards protecting your online financial information from identity theft and fraud. ID Vault protects you from multiple online threats, including phishing, pharming, spyware, keystroke loggers, Trojan Horses, and other sophisticated online fraud schemes.
Here's how you are protected when you use ID Vault:
- ID Vault signs you in to your accounts automatically so your sign-in information is never exposed to possible interception by spyware, keystroke loggers or other malware, nor is it visible to any prying eyes in your vicinity.
- You can be confident that you are signing in to a legitimate site, and not a fraudulent copy designed to steal your sign-in credentials. The ID Vault Trusted Network includes more than 7,000 financial institutions and 500 top shopping sites, which are constantly monitored to ensure that IP addresses and sign-in protocols are legitimate and up-to-date.
- Your sign-in credentials (usernames and passwords) are stored in a separate, tamper-proof USB device, rather than on your computer where cyber criminals can get at them. Only you can get at your passwords, account numbers, or online finances when they're protected with ID Vault.
- ID Vault signs in to your online Financial Accounts with ID Vault Secure View, so you're protected against spyware and other Web-based threats.
- ID Vault automatically enters your credit card information when you shop online, so your credit card numbers are safe from hackers and keystroke loggers.
Now that you know the many ways that ID Vault protects you, get started by activating your ID Vault!
Chapter 2: Setting Up Your ID Vault
- Plug your ID Vault into a USB port
- Install the ID Vault software
- Name your ID Vault
- Select a PIN (Personal Identification Number)
- Enter your email address
- Add the accounts you want to protect to ID Vault
When the set up process is complete, your ID Vault will be personalized and ready for you to start adding the online accounts you would like to protect.
Before you start
- Your Windows version: ID Vault requires either Windows Vista™ (32 or 64-bit version) or Windows® XP with Service Pack 2 (32-bit only). The ID Vault installation software will notify you if you are running Windows XP and have not upgraded to Service Pack 2. If that is the case, please exit the ID Vault installation program and use the Windows Update feature on the Microsoft Web site to download and install Service Pack 2. When this free upgrade is complete, retry the ID Vault installation.
If you are running Windows ® XP and haven't upgraded to Microsoft .NET 3.0, the ID Vault set up process will install it for you. This may take a few extra minutes depending on your internet connection. - Your Web browser: ID Vault requires that Microsoft Internet Explorer® (version 6 or higher) be available on your system.
- Your Internet connection: You must be connected to the Internet to install the ID Vault software.
- Ready? Let's get started!
During this procedure you will need:
- Your ID Vault software CD
- Your ID Vault
- Your email address
- Your online account credentials for the accounts you want to protect using ID Vault
Plug your ID Vault in a USB port
Remove your ID Vault from the package and plug it into your computer's USB port.
Insert the ID Vault CD
Insert the ID Vault CD and follow the prompts to install the ID Vault software. When this screen appears, click Next to continue the set up process.

Note: For certain Windows XP users only, ID Vault will need to download and install Microsoft .NET 3.0. In this case, the following 2 additional screens will appear:

Screen 1

Screen 2
Indicate your acceptance of the terms of the ID Vault Software License Agreement by clicking Yes.

To install the ID Vault software in the default folder click on Install. You can specify a different location by clicking on Change.

Personalize your ID Vault
The name you assign to your ID Vault can be up to 32 letters and digits long. This name is used by the software to refer to a particular ID Vault, but plays no role in the security or identity protection features of the product.
You can accept the default name, "MyIdVault", or enter a custom name – "Michael", "Vault of Mike", "Fort Knox", or whatever you like. Creating a custom name is recommended, since it makes it easier to identify your ID Vault when more than one is being used, for instance when two members of the same household each use an ID Vault.
Next, choose a PIN (Personal Identification Number) of four to eight digits and enter it into the Create a PIN field. As always in ID Vault, the digits are masked during entry to protect your PIN from discovery. To verify that you have input it correctly, you must also enter the same number into the Retype PIN field before clicking Next.

Record your Serial Number
Your serial number will enable you to access your ID Vault if you forget your PIN. Please take the time to write down and/or print out the serial number and store it in a safe place. If you lost both your PIN and your unique ID Vault serial number, any account information stored in your ID Vault will be permanently unrecoverable.

Enter your email address
A valid email address is required to activate your ID Vault subscription. Your ID Vault subscription gives you access to the ID Vault Trusted Network of financial and shopping sites, along with free protection updates and enhancements for twelve months after activation. For more information on the ID Vault Subscription Policy, see Subscription Policy.
Enter your email address, then click Next to continue.
Note: Guard ID Systems values your privacy. We do not share your email address or zip code with anyone outside of Guard ID Systems, Inc. For more information on the ID Vault Privacy Policy, please visit www.idvault.com/privacy/.

Add your online accounts
Now that you have completed the setup process, you can begin to add the online accounts that you want to protect to your ID Vault. You must have the user names and passwords available in order to add your accounts to ID Vault. Review the steps on this page to familiarize yourself with the process of adding accounts to ID Vault. See "Chapter 3: Adding Accounts to ID Vault" for detailed information.

If you have the credentials for your existing online accounts available, click 'Add my first account now'. If you don't have your credentials available, or wish to continue later, click 'Add my first account later. You can add account to ID Vault at any time by clicking on the ID Vault icon on your desktop or in your system tray. Note: Your online accounts will not be protected unless you add them to ID Vault.

Once your ID Vault has been setup, you can plug it into a USB port or unplug it at almost any time, unless ID Vault is in the process of adding, modifying or deleting an account.
However, to avoid problems accessing your stored account information, you should take care to avoid removing ID Vault when it is being updated after operations like:
- Adding a new account
- Modifying account details
- Storing a credit card number
ID Vault displays a progress bar during updates so that you will know when it can be safely removed.

Your PIN Security
Adding and managing your ID Vault accounts is possible only when ID Vault is plugged in. Before you can add to or change what's on your ID Vault, you will be asked to enter your PIN.

If you enter your PIN incorrectly three times in a row, ID Vault gives you a second chance to unlock your ID Vault by asking you to enter the serial number you were given during the set up process. Again, you have three chances to get it right. After that, your ID Vault assumes that it is being inappropriately used and becomes permanently locked for your protection.
Chapter 3: Adding Accounts to ID Vault
You can add three types of account to ID Vault:
- Financial Accounts are online accounts at financial institutions like banks, credit unions, credit card issuers and brokerages. There are more than 7,000 financial institutions in the ID Vault Trusted Network.
- Shopping Accounts are online accounts at shopping sites like Amazon.com and eBay. There are 500 top shopping sites in the ID Vault Trusted Network.
- Other Accounts are online accounts for which you sign in at any Web site not included in the above two account types. For instance, email accounts and accounts at online news sites fall into this category, as do shopping sites that are not in the list of 500 top shopping sites. Other Accounts are not part of the ID Vault Trusted Network.
The procedures for adding all three types of account begin in the ID Vault main menu. To get to the ID Vault main menu, click on the ID Vault icon on your desktop or in your system tray.
The ID Vault Add Account Wizard
Launching the Wizard
The primary way to launch the Add Account Wizard is from the System Tray area of your Windows taskbar. Click on the ID Vault icon in the System Tray and click on the appropriate category heading depending on whether you wish to add a Financial account, Shopping account or Other account.

Additional ways to access the Add Account Wizard:
- By visiting a new sign-in page with the Internet Explorer Web browser. See Add a Financial Account by browsing, Add a Shopping Account by browsing, and Add an Other Account.
- From the ID Vault Control Center. The same category headings that you see when you click on the ID Vault Desktop or System Tray icon are accessible in the Accounts tab in the Control Center. See Chapter 6: The ID Vault Control Center.
If ID Vault is not plugged into a USB port, you will need to plug it in before you can add any accounts.
Now, let's walk through the steps for adding each type of account.
Adding a Financial Account to your ID Vault involves four steps:
- Select 'Add Financial Account' from the ID Vault Main Menu
- Choose a financial institution from the ID Vault Trusted Network and verify the Web site
- Enter your account sign-in credentials
- Verify that you are signed in
After adding one or more accounts to your ID Vault, we suggest that you back up the account information on your ID Vault (see Backup for details).
Select 'Add Financial Account' from the ID Vault Main Menu
Bring up the ID Vault main menu, by clicking on the ID Vault desktop icon or system tray icon. Select 'Add Financial Account'.

Choose a financial instiution from the ID Vault Trusted Network and verify the Web site
The entire ID Vault Trusted Network list of more than 7,000 financial institutions is displayed. Type your financial institution's name into the search box. The search is not case sensitive. If the search box is empty, the complete list is displayed.

Choosing a financial institution from the ID Vault Trusted Network: Type any part of the institution's name into the search box. Only those sites whose names contain the search text are listed. Select the one you want in the list, then verify the image of the financial institution's Web site that appears to the right.
Choose the financial institution with which you have the account, verify the preview image of the Web site, then click Next to proceed to Step 3. If your financial institution isn't listed, click on "I can't find my financial institution in the list". This link will take you to a Web page where you can propose the site for inclusion in the ID Vault Trusted Network.
Before the site is added to the ID Vault Trusted Network, Guard ID Systems will validate the site and research and evaluate the site's security to ensure it meets our stringent standards. Meanwhile, you can still add your account at this site to ID Vault as an "Other Account", right from your Web browser. (See the Add An Other Account section for instructions.)
In certain cases, ID Vault can detect that your computer does not have the security cookies needed for ID Vault to sign you in automatically. In this case, a message will appear telling you to sign in once manually without ID Vault, then to return to add the account to ID Vault.

Enter your account sign-in credentials
In this all-important step you provide ID Vault with the credentials required to sign in to your existing online account at this financial Web site. To verify that you've entered the correct password, move your mouse over the password field to view what you've entered. Click Next to continue when finished.
ID Vault monitors the precise sign-in procedures for all financial Web sites in the ID Vault Trusted Network. Enter the information requested by the Add Account Wizard exactly as though you were signing in to your account manually.

The exact set of credentials requested varies from one site to another, as does the use of terms such as User ID instead of User Name, or Passcode for Password.

Some financial Web sites require additional validation information when you try to sign in. In such cases, a pop-up window or new input field will appear for you to provide the required responses.
Verify that your are signed in
Once you have entered your credentials, ID Vault contacts the financial institution's Web site you selected and attempts to sign in on your behalf.

ID Vault lets you decide whether its sign-in attempt was successful. Carefully examine the image to determine whether it is the same as what you see when you sign in to your bank account without ID Vault.
ID Vault asks you to verify if the sign-in has been successful. If the image looks like what you see when you sign in to your bank account without ID Vault, click Yes to proceed. If the image shows something different from what you normally see when you sign in, click No. A pop-up will be displayed asking if you would like to modify the account credentials you previously entered.

Incorrect credentials are the most common reason why ID Vault can't log into an account. Recheck your sign-in credentials and try again. If ID Vault is still not successful signing you in, click 'No' in response to the 'Modify Account Credentials?' dialog. The Add Account Wizard will then close and you will be taken to a Web page that will provide you with information on the common causes of this issue. If, after following the steps outlined on the Web page, ID Vault still cannot sign in to your account, use the links at the bottom of the page to contact ID Vault Technical Support.
Add a Financial Account by browsing
When you use your Web browser to visit a financial Web site in the ID Vault Trusted Network, ID Vault automatically gives you the chance to add the account to ID Vault if you haven't previously done so.

ID Vault recognizes when you visit the Web site of a financial institution in the ID Vault Trusted Network. If you have not previously added an account from that site to ID Vault, you are given a chance to do so. Click Not Now if you don't want to add an account.
If you respond by clicking Yes when given the opportunity to add the account, may sometimes ask you to choose from a list of possible financial institutions you wish to add the account for. Usually this step is unnecessary, however.

ID Vault then checks whether your ID Vault is plugged in and, if not, walks you through plugging it in then entering your PIN. (See Plugging and unplugging for details).
ID Vault then moves to Step 3 of the ID Vault Add Account Wizard (see Enter your account sign-in credentials) to complete the process of adding the account to ID Vault.
After adding a Financial Account
Once a successful sign-in has been achieved for the new account, you will be asked to enter your PIN so your confidential account information can be stored in ID Vault.

Updating the ID Vault: It is important that you leave ID Vault undisturbed during the few seconds needed to complete this procedure. Failure to do so may result in the loss of account information from ID Vault.
The final screen of the ID Vault Add Account Wizard gives you three choices of how to proceed.

Choose "Add another account to ID Vault" to continue to add more Financial Accounts to ID Vault.
Adding a Shopping Account to your ID Vault using the ID Vault Add Account Wizard involves the same four-step process used to add a Financial Account:
- Select 'Add Shopping Account' from the ID Vault Main Menu
- Choose a shopping site from the ID Vault Trusted Network and verify the image of the Web site
- Enter your account sign-in credentials
- Verify that you are signed in
After adding one or more accounts to your ID Vault, we suggest that you back up the account information on your ID Vault (see Backup for details).

If you have not previously added an account from that site to ID Vault, you are given a chance to do so. Click 'Not Now' if you don't want to add an account at this time. Click 'Never' if you want ID Vault to refrain from asking you about adding an account for this until you tell it otherwise. See Modify the Never Ask list of Web sites.
If you respond by clicking Yes when given the opportunity to add the account, ID Vault first checks whether your ID Vault is plugged in and, if not, walks you through plugging it in, then entering your PIN. (See Plugging and unplugging for details).
ID Vault then moves to Step 3 of the ID Vault Add Account Wizard (see Enter your account sign-in credentials) to complete the process of adding the account to ID Vault.
After adding a Shopping Account

The final screen of the ID Vault Add Account Wizard gives you three choices of how to proceed.

Choose "Add another account to ID Vault" to continue to add more shopping accounts to ID Vault.
Whenever you sign in to an account at a Web site that is not part of the ID Vault Trusted Network, ID Vault gives you the chance to add this account to your ID Vault. Follow these simple steps to add an Other account to ID Vault:
- Navigate to the Web site where you have the account.
- Sign in to your account as you normally would wait for the pop-up.
- Click 'Yes' and follow the prompts to add the account to ID Vault.
After adding one or more accounts to your ID Vault, we suggest that you back up the account information on your ID Vault (see Backup for details).
Navigate to the Web site where you have an account

Sign in to your account as you normally would
Browse to the account sign in page of the website and enter the user name and password for your existing online account. Note: The exact set of credentials requested varies from one site to another, as does the use of terms such as User ID instead of User Name, or Passcode for Password. ID Vault will ask you if you would like to protect this account by adding it to ID Vault.

Select 'Yes' and give the account a name
If you select Yes, ID Vault asks you to give the account a name:

ID Vault will save the account with the name you provide. Click OK to complete the process of adding this account to your ID Vault. You will be asked to enter your PIN for your account information to be stored in your ID Vault.

As is usual when the ID Vault token is being updated, it is important to refrain from unplugging it during the few seconds needed to complete this procedure. Failure to do so may result in the loss of the account information on your ID Vault.
Chapter 4: Signing in to Accounts
Once you have set up your accounts, signing in becomes both safer and more convenient than the standard method of navigating to a Web site and signing in manually.
The primary way to sign in to your accounts using ID Vault is by clicking on the ID Vault icon in either the System Tray or on your Desktop.

Clicking on either icon opens the main ID Vault menu, where your accounts are listed alphabetically by type.
Additional ways to sign in to your accounts using ID Vault are:
- By browsing: Use your Web browser to navigate to a site that is home to one of your accounts.
Regardless of what method you choose, you will be asked to enter your PIN before signing in to any of the accounts stored on your ID Vault.

ID Vault opens Financial Accounts with ID Vault Secure View™, which offers additional protection against browser-based attacks and malware. ID Vault opens Shopping Accounts and Other Accounts using the Internet Explorer Web browser.
Signing in from the System Tray
The main ID Vault menu lists your accounts in alphabetical order, grouped by account type. Click on the one you want to sign in to, then enter your PIN.

Options are also provided for opening the ID Vault Control Center and for accessing technical support.
Signing in by browsing
ID Vault recognizes when a site you visit is one that hosts any of the accounts stored in your ID Vault. When this happens, a small window appears that offers you the chance to sign in if desired.

As with the other sign-in methods, a Financial Account will be opened using ID Vault Secure View, rather than in your system's default Web browser.
Signing in – Pharming Warning
Every time you sign in to an account that is part of the ID Vault Trusted Network, ID Vault verifies that the network location (IP address) of the sign-in screen is the correct one for the account in question.
The ID Vault Trusted Network Web sites are constantly monitored to ensure that the IP addresses and sign-in protocols are legitimate and up-to-date. If ID Vault detects that you are being sent to a Web site whose doesn't match the recorded IP address. it rejects the sign-in and alerts you that you may be experiencing a pharming attack.
Note: Web sites sometimes change their IP addresses for legitimate reasons. In such cases, a successful sign-in will be possible after the ID Vault Trusted Network has been updated which usually takes place within 24 hours.
Sign in Aborted – Pharming Warning
The ID Vault Trusted Network Web sites are being constantly monitored to ensure the IP addresses and sign-in protocols are legitimate and up-to-date. If ID Vault detects that you are being sent to a Web site whose doesn't match the IP address recorded for the site in the ID Vault Trusted Network ("Danger – Sign In Aborted"), it is possible that you are experiencing a pharming attack.
ID Vault Trusted Network maintenance
If ID Vault rejects the IP address of a legitimate site, the site information stored in the ID Vault Trusted Network may be temporarily inaccurate: a small number of sites change IP addresses frequently. In this case, the IP address will be usually be updated on the ID Vault Trusted Network within 24 hours.
Password at Risk – Phishing Warning
When you attempt to send financial or shopping account credentials that you have stored on your ID Vault to a site outside of the ID Vault Trusted Network, you will be warned that you may be the target of a phishing attack ("You are about to send one of your passwords for a Financial or Shopping account to an unknown site…"). You should not send your secure credentials to any Web site unless you can verify the authenticity and ownership of the Web site.

When ID Vault signs in to your online Financial Accounts with ID Vault Secure View, you're protected against spyware and other Web-based threats. Standard Web browsers permit toolbars and plug-ins that can eavesdrop on communications between your Web browser and your financial institution's Web site. ID Vault Secure View protects you because it does not allow add-ons that could put your account credentials at risk.
ID Vault Secure View is not designed to serve as a general Web browser. It is only used when you sign in to your for Financial Accounts using ID Vault.

When you sign in to your Financial Accounts with ID Vault, they will always be opened in ID Vault Secure View, even if you browse to them using your regular Web browser.

ID Vault Secure View provides four standard Web navigation controls: Previous, Next, Refresh and Stop. In the illustration, the mouse pointer is hovering over the Refresh button.

In the upper right-hand corner of ID Vault Secure View are three more buttons: Properties (which displays a message summarizing the current Web page connection), Print and Accounts. In the illustration, the star-shaped Accounts button has been clicked and another ID Vault account is being selected.
An account you select from the drop-down menu after clicking the star-shaped Accounts button will open in a separate window. If it is a Financial Account, it will open in a new ID Vault Secure View window, while Shopping and Other Accounts will open in your default Web browser.
Chapter 5: Using ID Vault for Credit Cards
You can use ID Vault to securely store your credit card information so that you don't have to search for your wallet and type it in each time you shop online. Once you have added your credit card information to ID Vault, ID Vault protects you from spyware and keystroke loggers when you shop online by securely auto-filling the information into payment forms at checkout.

When you have added one or more credit cards to your ID Vault, it becomes simpler than ever to go through the checkout at shopping Web sites for which you have added an account to ID Vault.
When you reach the page where you would normally be required to fill in your credit card particulars, ID Vault gives you a chance to do so with a mouse-click. Just click on the icon for the card to use for this purchase, and ID Vault does the rest, correctly filling in the cardholder name, card number, expiry date and any other required information. Click Close if you prefer to input the information manually.

Refer to Chapter 5, How to Use ID Vault for Credit Cards for information on the 'Cards' tab.
ID Vault settings are found in the Options section of the ID Vault Control Center. The options are divided into two groups:

Prompt for entry of ID Vault PIN
ID Vault lets you customize the frequency at which you are prompted to enter your ID Vault PIN.
By default, ID Vault will ask you to enter your PIN every time you use ID Vault to sign in to an account. However, you can tell ID Vault to not ask more than once during a particular interval, customizable from two minutes to 120 minutes.
For example, suppose you want ID Vault to prompt you for your PIN no more often than once every 10 minutes. The first time you sign in to one of your online accounts, ID Vault will prompt you for your PIN as usual. If you then visit another account within ten minutes, ID Vault will automatically sign you in without prompting you for your PIN. However, if more than ten minutes elapse before your next sign-in, ID Vault will again prompt for your PIN.
The Options section of the ID Vault Control Center lets you choose the time interval you want:
- Every time an account is opened or modified; or,
- After a time interval of 2 to 120 minutes.
If you opt for ID Vault to prompt for your PIN after a particular time interval, simply type the desired number of minutes into the space provided.
Additional options
This group contains two options:
- When browsing to "Other" accounts that are stored in ID Vault, prompt to open account: When you visit a Web site for which an account is already stored in ID Vault, and this option is checked, ID Vault will offer to sign in for you.
- Modify the "Never Ask" list of Web sites: Use this option to remove Web sites from your ID Vault "Never Ask" list. In certain instances, you are able to instruct ID Vault to "Never ask for this Web site in the future", specifying that ID Vault should refrain from asking whether you want to add the particular account to ID Vault. These sites are then added to your ID Vault "Never Ask" list. Use this "Modify" option to change this instruction by removing selected sites from this exclusion list.

To remove an individual entry from the 'Never Ask' list, select the entry with the mouse then click 'Remove'. The 'Remove all' option clears the 'Never Ask' list completely.
This section of the ID Vault Control Center, offers two ways to back up the information on your ID Vault: you can either print out the information stored in your ID Vault (and place the printout in a safe location away from your PC), or you can copy the information stored in your ID Vault to a second ID Vault for backup.
IMPORTANT: If you did not save your serial number in a secure place during the initial set up and activation process, you will want to print a Backup Report, as your ID Vault serial number is listed on your Backup Report. You will need this serial number to unlock access to your ID Vault if you forget your ID Vault PIN.
Once the ID Vault Backup Wizard is launched, choose between:
- Print a list of my account information, or
- Back up my account information to an ID Vault for Backup.
Then, enter your PIN.

Creating a printed copy of the information
- Click Print a list of my account information. ID Vault will retrieve the secure information stored on it for printing. This may take a few moments.
- Follow your printer's prompts to print your Backup Report.
- Your Backup Report contains your ID Vault name and serial number, the URL, username and password for each of the accounts on your ID Vault, along with your credit card information. Please keep your Backup Report in a secure place.
Copying the information to a second ID Vault
- Click Back up my account information to an ID Vault for Backup. ID Vault will retrieve your secure information. Do not remove ID Vault while it is retrieving information for backup.
- When it is ready, ID Vault prompts you to remove your ID Vault from the USB port. Unplug your ID Vault from the computer.
- After removing your ID Vault from the USB port, ID Vault will automatically prompt you to insert your second ID Vault, which you must previously have activated.
- Once the ID Vault software detects a different ID Vault in the USB port, a new window appears, asking you to enter your PIN for this second ID Vault.
- If this second ID Vault already contains secure information, it will be overwritten. ID Vault asks you to confirm before performing the backup operation.
- While ID Vault is backing up your information, do not remove it from the USB port. Once backup is completed, you are prompted to remove your second ID Vault and store it in a secure place.
- Click OK.

Chapter 8: Software License Agreement
Introduction and Acceptance. This Software License Agreement (the "Agreement") is a legal agreement between you (either an individual or an entity) and Guard ID Systems, Inc. (the "Licensor") regarding the use of Licensor's software entitled ID Vault, which includes user documentation provided in electronic form (the "Software"). BEFORE YOU CLICK ON THE "I ACCEPT AND AGREE" BUTTON AT THE END OF THIS DOCUMENT, CAREFULLY READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THIS AGREEMENT. BY CLICKING ON THE "I ACCEPT AND AGREE" BUTTON, YOU ARE AGREEING TO BE BOUND BY AND ARE BECOMING A PARTY TO THIS AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO ALL OF THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, CLICK THE "DECLINE" BUTTON AND THE SOFTWARE WILL NOT BE INSTALLED ON YOUR COMPUTER. IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL THIS SOFTWARE PLEASE DESTROY OR DELETE ALL COPIES IN YOUR POSSESSION.
2. Grant of License. Subject to the restrictions set forth below, this Agreement grants you a nonexclusive, perpetual license to install and use the specified version of the Software in object code format, for personal use only. The Software is "in use" on a computer when it is loaded into the temporary memory (i.e., RAM) or installed into the permanent memory (e.g., hard disk, CD-ROM, or other storage device) of that computer. The license granted hereunder shall not be effective until you have paid in full all license fees for your software due and payable to the Licensor.
3. Ownership. The license granted hereunder does not constitute a transfer or sale of Licensor's ownership rights in or to the Software. Except for the license rights granted above, Licensor and its suppliers and licensors retain all right, title and interest in and to the Software, including all intellectual property rights therein. The Software is protected by applicable intellectual property laws, including United States copyright laws and international treaties.
4. License Restrictions. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software, except to the extent the foregoing restriction is expressly prohibited by applicable law. You may not remove or destroy any copyright notices or other proprietary markings. You may not modify or adapt the Software, merge the Software into another program or create derivative works based on the Software. You may not use, copy, or distribute the Software without Licensor's authorization, except that you may make one (1) copy of the Software for archival or back-up purposes only.
5. Termination. This Agreement shall be effective upon installation of the Software and Licensor's rights and SHALL TERMINATE UPON THE EARLIER OF: (i) YOUR FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH ANY TERM OF THIS AGREEMENT; OR (ii) RETURN, DESTRUCTION OR DELETION OF ALL COPIES OF THE SOFTWARE IN YOUR POSSESSION. Licensor's rights and your obligations shall survive the termination of this Agreement. Upon termination of this Agreement by Licensor, you shall destroy or return to Licensor all copies of the Software, or any portion thereof.
6. Updates. For the time period specified in the applicable product invoicing or product packaging for the Software, you are entitled to download updates to the Software when and as Guard ID Systems publishes them via its electronic bulletin board system, website or through other online services. After the specified time period, you have no further rights to receive any updates without purchase of a new license to the Software.
7. Limited Security. The Software is intended to provide increased security for the usernames and passwords you use on the Internet. Accordingly, your use of the Software is only one part of a conscientious and comprehensive system to decrease the risk of misappropriation of your information by third parties. Licensor and its suppliers, licensors, distributors, agents, and representatives make no guarantee that the information you store in the software will not be stolen.
8. Limited Warranty. Licensor warrants that the Software will perform substantially in accordance with the documentation accompanying the Software for a period of ninety (90) days after receipt by you. Licensor's entire liability and your exclusive remedy for breach of this warranty shall be, at Licensor's option, either (i) refund of the license fee paid by you; or (b) repair or replacement of the Software that does not meet the warranty set forth herein and that is returned to Licensor with a copy of your receipt. This limited warranty shall be void if failure of the Software has resulted from any accident, abuse, misuse or misapplication by you. Any replacement Software will be warranted for the remainder of the original warranty period or thirty (30) days, whichever is longer. These terms supersede any prior agreements or representations—including representations made in Guard ID Systems sales literature or advice given to you by Licensor, a Licensor reseller, sales representative, or distributor, or an agent or employee thereof—that may have been made in connection with your purchase of the Software. This warranty runs from Licensor to you, and you do not have the right to make any warranty claims against Licensor's suppliers, licensors, distributors, agents, and representatives.
9. NO OTHER WARRANTIES. EXCEPT AS SET FORTH IN SECTION 6, THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" BASIS. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, LICENSOR AND ITS SUPPLIERS, LICENSORS, DISTRIBUTORS, AGENTS, AND REPRESENTATIVES DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, QUALITY, ACCURACY, AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE WITH RESPECT TO THE SOFTWARE AND THE ACCOMPANYING WRITTEN MATERIALS. THERE IS NO WARRANTY AGAINST INTERFERENCE WITH THE ENJOYMENT OF THE SOFTWARE OR AGAINST INFRINGEMENT. THERE IS NO WARRANTY THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL FULFILL ANY OF YOUR PARTICULAR PURPOSES OR NEEDS.
10. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL LICENSOR OR ITS SUPPLIERS, LICENSORS, DISTRIBUTORS, AGENTS, AND REPRESENTATIVES BE LIABLE FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY DAMAGES RESULTING FROM THE THEFT, MISAPPROPRIATION, OR USE OF YOUR DATA STORED USING THE SOFTWARE) ARISING OUT OF THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE THE SOFTWARE, EVEN IF LICENSOR HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. THE FOREGOING LIMITATIONS ARE INDEPENDENT OF THE EXCLUSIVE REMEDY PROVIDED IN SECTION 8 ABOVE AND SHALL APPLY NOTWITHSTANDING ANY FAILURE OF SUCH EXCLUSIVE REMEDY. IN NO EVENT SHALL LICENSOR'S OR ITS SUPPLIERS', LICENSORS', DISTRIBUTORS', AGENTS', OR REPRESENTATIVES' AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF THIS AGREEMENT EXCEED THE FEES PAID BY YOU FOR THE SOFTWARE THE FOREGOING EXCLUSIONS AND LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY AND DAMAGES SHALL NOT APPLY TO CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES FOR PERSONAL INJURY.
