If you are experiencing problems adding or opening a Bank of America account with ID Vault, this is most likely due to the need to create the correct "cookie" for your Bank of America account. This can be resolved by signing into the BofA site normally, (without ID Vault) using Internet Explorer.

If you have created a Bank of America account using the ID Vault, delete it.

NOTE: When creating the Bank of America account, you must allow the B of A windows to finish refreshing, and for the "log off," or "sign off," messaging to appear. If you quit out of the B of A page before the account is fully created, the Bank of America cookie will not be created correctly, and you will receive an "ID Vault Site Error," when trying to create the account in ID Vault, or access it from the ID Vault.

  1. Open Internet Explorer and browse to the Bank of America Web site.
  2. Click "Not now," when prompted to add the site to the ID Vault.
  3. If you have previously instructed the BofA site to save or remember your online ID, this will have been saved as a cookie and needs to be deleted. If you are prompted of "Use Saved Online ID?" in the sign-in section, this is the case. The prompt usually includes the first four characters on your ID, followed by asterisks. If this is NOT the case, and your sign-on has not been previously saved, continue to step 4. If this IS the case:
  4. Sign in to your account by clicking on the "Sign In" button and entering your password.
  5. Once you are signed in to your account, click on the "Customer Service" tab.
  6. Click on "Edit saved online IDs" under the "Your Profile Information" menu on the left hand side of the screen.
  7. Click the remove checkbox next to the Online ID for the account that you wish to add to ID Vault, then click "Edit."
  8. Click "Sign off" to exit your account.
  9. Register your computer by selecting the "Yes" button. When you signed into your online account at Bank of America, you were asked if you wanted the Web site to remember your computer. Registering your computer saves you from having to answer security questions each time you sign in. ID Vault only works if you have registered your computer. If you answer challenge questions each time you sign in, this means that your computer is not registered. If you are not asked challenge questions, your computer is already registered.
  10. Sign out of your account and close Internet Explorer.
  11. Try to add the account again with ID Vault by clicking on the ID Vault icon and selecting "Add Financial Account".
